Hillsborough Clerk of Court wins Florida Excellence Award
Hillsborough County Clerk of Court & Comptroller Pat Frank has been honored with a prestigious Florida Excellence Best Practices Award for a major restructuring that improved customer service, increased efficiency and enhanced communication.
The reorganization created the new Customer Service Center at the Edgecomb Courthouse, where the public can pay traffic citations, make child support payments, file civil suits and conduct numerous other transactions.
The Florida Excellence Award is based on the nationally renowned Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award and honors public and private organizations that demonstrate performance excellence in customer service, workforce and organization. Read more.
The Florida Legislature is failing Florida's court clerks
Clerk of Court & Comptroller Pat Frank discussed the "State of the Courts" during a recent Hillsborough Bar Association Luncheon. She called on the audience to demand better treatment from Florida lawmakers, who are taking money from the courts and the clerks to pay for pet projects to avoid raising taxes. It’s a shell game, she said, and it must end. Read more.
The Clerk of the Court touches your life from cradle to grave
In a recent column in the Tampa Bay Times, Clerk of Court & Comptroller Pat Frank discussed the myriad duties of her office, the hard work of her staff and the declining revenues mandated by the Florida legislature.
“It's a big enterprise and it wouldn't work without my more than 730 dedicated employees, many of whom have decades of experience,” she writes. “They do a great job and I appreciate every one of them.”
“Lately, though, I'm not sure the Legislature feels the same. While our lawmakers found tens of millions of dollars to fund pet projects around the state, they failed once again to fund adequately the operations of Florida's 67 court clerks, including those in the Tampa Bay area.” Read more.

Setting the pace for local governments across Florida
As a Florida leader in the use of electronic documents, dozens of government agencies from around the state met in Tampa to learn how to move toward a paperless office. With millions of paper documents, it’s no easy task, but patience and persistence lead to increased efficiency, accountability and customer service. Read more.
Online Access to Court Records is coming soon
By June 30, the public will be able to access civil and criminal court records online. Special steps are being taken to prevent confidential information from being released. Learn more.
Pat Frank works with the History Center to preserve Hillsborough’s oldest book
A book documenting some of the earliest events in Hillsborough County history, locked away in a vault for decades, could soon be accessible to the public. Hillsborough Circuit Court Clerk and Comptroller Pat Frank is working with the Tampa Bay History Center to display the so-called Day Book and digitize its pages so the public can read it. The book includes property transactions, including the ownership of slaves. “In this book is the importance of remembering it all, the deadly-dull minutiae, the monumental and the ugly,” writes Tampa Bay Times columnist Sue Carlton. “It's what happened." NEW MARRIAGE LICENSES NOW AVAILABLE!
New Marriage Licenses saying "Spouse and Spouse" instead of "Bride and Groom" have been approved by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, and are now being issued when couples apply for a marriage license at the Clerk's Office in Official Records, 419 Pierce Street, Room 140.
JUROR and SCAM ALERT!
The Clerk’s Office has become aware of successful attempts by dishonest people to obtain money and personal identification from Hillsborough County citizens, such as Social Security numbers and dates of birth.
These individuals identify themselves falsely as members of law enforcement or Court officials, such as ‘Lieutenant’ or ‘Sergeant.' They telephone people and inform them that they have a bench warrant for failing to report for jury duty and that they need to pay money immediately, such as $500, or more, in order to avoid getting arrested.
ALL CITIZENS, PLEASE NOTE: It is the policy of the Clerk’s Office to notify jurors by MAIL concerning their duty services. Jurors are NOT contacted by telephone or any other medium, including email or text messages. Jury Services does NOT need your personal information, such as your Social Security number or date of birth. Jury Services also does NOT require any money from you.
